  1. The Statue of Liberty - our beacon of freedom
    1. The "New Colossus": Famous sonnet written by Emma Lazarus in 1883. A bronze plaque, dedicated in memory of Emma Lazarus' contribution to the completion of the Statue's pedestal, has been affixed to the inner walls of the pedestal since the early 1900's. This plaque, currently located in the Statue of Liberty exhibit, has come to symbolize the statue's universal message of hope and freedom for immigrants coming to America and people seeking freedom around the world.

      Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
      With conquering limbs astride from land to land,
      Here at our sea-washed, sunset- gates shall stand
      A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
      Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
      Mothers of Exile. From her beacon hand
      Glows world-wide welcome, her mild eyes command
      The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

      "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" she cries
      With a silent lips, "Give me your tired, your poor,
      Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
      The wretched refuse of your teeming shore;
      Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
      I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

      [November 2, 1883, Emma Lazarus 1849-1887)
    2. As stated on the main page, the original concept of an american is just anyone who is believes in individual freedom. This concept emerged from a feudal Europe where freedom was nonexistent. Everyone was subject to a King or Lord, to whom the "divine" right to rule was given. It was abuses by these "divine" rulers, that caused the American Revolution (1776), sparked over taxation of the people. By the late 1800's, the first wave of immigrants came from the European shores. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!", this phrase in the poem clearly illustrates the differences between subjected Europe and the freedom of the United States. It was a choice made by Europeans who no longer wanted to live under the rule of a monarch, and wanted the freedom of the individual.
    3. The Golden Gates of Freedom Closed - After two World Wars, (beginning in 1945) America turned inward, and rejected the world that was teeming on its shores. As such, the gates closed and the Statue of Liberty, feel into disrepair, just as the light of freedom - once promised - dimmed. Fear would be the rule, as the cold war descended on the nation of the free! As the cold war proceeded, the gates of freedom were to never open again.
    4. The Golden Gates of Freedom Opened, Once Again - Democratic Earth (in the last few months of 2004) has reopened the gates of freedom. It's taken more than 6 years to re-open the gates, but well worth it. Rather than being an ocean away the gates of freedom are just a click away. Citizens of Democratic Earth have all the rights in the American Constitution and those based in its concept. Our constitution is an extension of the American Constitution, but brings it into it's full intent, applied to the whole Earth rather than just a continent. (see the Constitution at http://democratic-earth.org) Now the lamp of freedom is lit for everyone on the Earth.
  2. our flag
    1. The American Revolutionary Flag - representing the revolution of freedom
    2. The Cross - A Christian symbol of freedom by which slavery was ended
    3. 13 Stars - For the 12 Apostles and Christ, by which all were free
    While Christ is the Son of God for Christians, He and the Apostles are the basis for the individual freedom embodied in the American Constitution.
  3. Our Freedom - Our freedom is based on the original Christian concept that there are no "divine rulers" other than God. That God is more that just our ruler, but our Father. Who, together with the Saints (according to the Father of the early Christians) become our Family. This means that all are truly created equal, siblings with no one above (or superior) to another. Further, because love (and respect) cannot be commanded we all have free will. The following freedoms come from this base;
    1. The Freedom of Choice - we have the freedom to choose how we are going to live, where we are going to live and just about any choice that affects our life.
    2. The Freedom Speech - The views of these subject to the old world were restricted, (along with any language deem offensive to the monarch/government). Here all speech is protected and free, even language that is offensive and/or objectionable.
    3. The Freedom of Though - this is similar to the Freedom of Speech. Your thoughts aren't a crime - but your actions can be. For example, thinking about stealing is not a crime, while the action of stealing is. However, peaceful civil disobedience is not a crime since the actions are an act of conscience.
    4. The Freedom of Expression - This extends freedom beyond speech into actions of expression, but is limit to actions that are not criminal in nature (theft and/or violence).
  4. Taxes - Historically, taxes are the tools by which imperial rulers, collected payment from their servents and subjects. Servents and subjects are the property of the imperial government, required to pay for their housing, food, etc. given to them by the imperial benefactor(s). The American revolution, and the American concept of democracy, was supposed to free people from the shackles of imperial slavery. Further, developments freed everyone in the US, and slavery was abolished.
    1. As such, no government calling itself has the right to collect taxes, taxes are a means of paying for services provided by a government.
    2. Those who do not wish to directly participate in the functions of a government (which services the public interest) should expect to pay for what is used.
    3. Participation in society need not be approved by a government, just beneficial to society. This means that competiting social services can be set up.
    4. When a government become fiscally irresponsible, customer (citizens) of that government are not liable to cover the cost, or pay any such penalty.
    5. Incorporated government entities are the property of the people, with the people as shareholders - with full shareholder rights.
    6. This means that the elected officials can (and should) be held accountable, by the people, for their failures.
  5. Violence - All citizens have the right to protect themselves, and others, from violence. All citizens have the right to expect protection from violence caused another individual, group or government.

These rights are just a basic introduction. For full details and the constitution of Democratic Earth and all Global Americans, please read through the constitution section of Democratic Earth.
